Exile Retrieval Imagery

Using imagination to bring isolated Parts into present safety.

Description

The imagery half of Witnessing & Retrieval — this entry exists because people ask specifically about the pictures. You might see yourself walking into an old scene, putting yourself between the part and what happened, or offering to take it somewhere else. Symbolic accuracy is beside the point; felt safety is the whole point.

The thing to know is that the part supplies the imagery, not you. Ask what it needs and wait, rather than arriving with a plan involving warm light. Some systems produce vivid cinema. Some produce a vague sense of direction and nothing visual at all, and those do just as well — if you don’t get pictures, you are not bad at this, you are just not a visualiser.

If the imagery goes somewhere strange, follow it. Parts are frequently more inventive than the protocol, and a part that wants to be carried out of the scene by an animal knows something about what it needs that we don’t.

What Exile Retrieval Imagery is NOT:

Not fantasy roleplay, and not re-living the event — you are going back to fetch someone, not to sit through it again. Also not a place to arrange forgiveness. If forgiveness happens later, fine; staging it here is something a protector wants, not something the exile asked for.

Examples:

Standing between a child part and an old room, then asking where it would rather be.
An exile leaves only once a protector has actually nodded.
No images at all, just a growing sense that the part is no longer back there.
